A Day in the Life of an Artist

Day 29 - #30paintingsin30days - Robert Dean Ridgley

Today is Day 29 of the #30paintingsin30days challenge.

Today's painting was inspired by my dear husband, Bob.  This is just a quick oil sketch, a few hours, I wish I had more time. My goal for this painting was to capture his good humor and nice personality. During the painting, I kept thinking how hard it is to paint a loved one, as you know them so well. I often find it's hard to find the right brushstroke to capture that one characteristic that sums up the person perfectly.  At a later date, I am anxious to complete this head painting, and more importantly have him sit in my studio. I feel its important to finish this portrait sketch from life in order to capture the correct skin tones and add more detail to hopefully finally say "Yes"  .... that's him!
