Art in Bloom

What an exciting day on October 24, 2015 at the Cincinnati Art Museum event. " Art in Bloom" is an event which local florists are paired with an artwork piece from the Cincinnati Art Museum collection. The goal is for the florists to create a flower arrangement that would reflect the personality of their paired painting.  In addition, to compliment this event, five local artist and myself were invited to paint a live demo of a floral still life for the museum guest and families.  We started at 11 am and finished by 3 pm.  A fast painting day demo and tons of fun!

Model Repose

Sylvia Rombis, owner of Malton Gallery, was the juror for the WACC All Member Exhibit. As she was giving out the awards at the opening, she generously explained why she awarded that particular piece an award.  For my painting " Model Repose" these were the following comments from Sylvia:

" I have awarded Deborah Ridgley with a Honorable Mention Award for the 2015 All Member Exhibit because she has achieved  " luminous qualities of the skin " on the model.  I also liked the relaxing pose of the model.  In addition, I like the use of the space in the painting and the contrast between the lights and the darks to set off her skin.  But the thing I like the most was the feeling the portrait conveyed,  a contented and dreamy quality".

These comments from the juror are valuable to me as an artists, as its exciting to hear that the goals that I had for the painting were realized.
